Privacy policy

Who we are

Mirror Christ Church (“MCC”, “we”, “us”) is a local church in Greyville, Durban, meeting in the Underground Hall at Cityview Shopping Centre, 10 Mathews Meyiwa Rd. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.

Questions about this policy go to the church office by email or WhatsApp; both are listed at the foot of this page.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the life of the church:

• Contact details you give us: name, phone number, email address, and where relevant your home suburb.
• Prayer requests and pastoral notes you choose to share with a pastor.
• Giving records where you have given by EFT, so the office can allocate and acknowledge it.
• Attendance and membership details for members, including which ministries you serve in.
• Photographs and video from services and events, used as described below.

How we use it

To contact you about services, ministries and events; to respond to prayer requests; to keep proper records of giving; to arrange pastoral care; and to meet our obligations under South African law.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone outside the church except where the law requires it, or where a service provider (for example our email or hosting provider) processes it on our behalf under confidentiality.

Photographs and video

Services are photographed and recorded, and the recordings are published on our YouTube channel and social media. If you would rather not appear, tell a member of the media team or the office and we will avoid filming you and remove existing images on request.

Children are only photographed with the consent of a parent or guardian.

How long we keep it

Contact and membership details are kept while you are part of the church and for a reasonable period afterwards. Giving records are kept as long as the law requires. Pastoral notes are kept only as long as they serve the care of the person concerned, and are then destroyed.

Keeping it safe

Access to church records is limited to the pastors and the administrators who need it. Digital records are held in password-protected accounts; paper records are kept locked at the church office. If a breach occurs that could harm you, we will tell you and the Information Regulator.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa. We will never charge you for exercising these rights.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least once a year. The review date at the top of the page always reflects the current version.
